ALLIANCE, OH. - While Mount Union's Raider Open is well known as a top of the line men's folkstyle tournament, the women's tournament is a new addition to the campus. Bethany was one of a few teams to take the trip to Alliance to wrestle in the Purple Raider Women's Open in a Round Robin style tournament with Mount Union, John Carroll University, and varying unattached wrestlers.
The story of the day was Angelina Watson at 117 pounds. The Jersey native was crowned champion after ending both of her matches early.
The first match Watson wrestled her way to a dominant 10-0 tech fall victory over her Mount Union opponent. In match two, Watson took a slim lead into the second period before landing a fall. She didn't give up an offensive point the entire day.
Upperweight Shanielah Kirk went 2-1 on the day. The 180 pounder lost her first bout, but bounced back with two consecutive victories. Both of her wins came via fall.
Bethany will wrestle in another open February 1st at Frostburg State. The tournament is set to be an all day affair.
