ADA, Ohio - The Bethany College men's wrestling team competed at the ONU Invitational hosted by Ohio Northern University at the ONU Sports Center.
Bethany (2-2) finished eighth in the team standings with 60.5 points beating out three other Presidents' Athletic Conference teams. The host Ohio Northern (5-0) claimed the Invitational crown with 178.5 points including four first-place finishes.Â
Leading the way for the Bison was sophomore 125-pounder
Angelo Di Pol (Paulboro, N.J.) who went 4-1 on the day winning the weight class's consolation bracket after falling in the quarterfinals. He secured third place by earning two falls and a 21-11 major decision victory in the third-place match.
In the 133 bracket, freshman
Aván Rosado (Florence, S.C./South Florence) also medaled after finishing fourth going 4-2. He started the day out with a 9-2 decision in the first round, and then wrestled his way into the third-place match with a pin and a 17-10 decision.Â
Junior 174-pounder
Jonathan Braun (Kenilworth, N.J./David Brearley) and freshman 125-pounder
Harrison Spadoni (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) were the Green and White's final two placers finishing sixth and seventh in their respective brackets.
Braun went 2-3 with two pins while
Spadoni finished 2-2 with a win by fall and an overtime decision victory in his final match of the day.
Freshman
Braylon Leiffer (Bellaire, Ohio) won his first two matches of the day at 141 while freshman
Jackson Hodges (Fairfield, Ohio/Hamilton) also secured two victories by fall in the 197 bracket.Â
The final Bison to earn a win was freshman 149-pounder
Jeremiah Stalling (Buckeye, Ariz./Buckeye Union) who dominated in his second match with a 20-4 technical fall.
The Bison are back in action on Saturday, January 3 as they travel to Washington, Pennsylvania to compete in the W&J Invitational hosted by Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) University at 10 a.m. in Salvitti Family Gymnasium.
