NAPLES, Fla. - For the second straight year, the Bethany College softball team went undefeated in their spring break trip to the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic, beating SUNY Cobleskill and Saint Joseph (CT).
GAME ONE: BETHANY 8, SUNY COBLESKILL 1
The majority of the Bethany offense came in the six-run second inning en route to the win.
Kidd added a two-run single in the fourth inning for the rest of the scoring.
Fifth-year Josie Wise (6-0) allowed one run on four hits with eight strikeouts over seven innings.
GAME TWO: BETHANY 3, USJ 2
Bethany scored two runs in the top of the sixth to take its only lead of the game and secure the perfect trip to the Sunshine State.
Freshman Bella Juozapaitis slapped a one-out single, scoring Markland – who opened the inning with a walk – with the tying run. Junior Miriam Peterson snapped the tie with a sacrifice fly, scoring freshman Amber Dedmon, who finished the game 3-for-3 with two runs scored.
The Blue Jays took the early lead with a pair of runs in the second inning. They had the opportunity to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth as USJ had the tying run in scoring position with one out. The threat was nullified with a strikeout and a pop out.
Sophomore Victoria Wehrberger (2-0) hurled three innings of scoreless relief, allowing two hits.
Bethany (10-0) travels to LaRoche 3 p.m. March 20 for a non-conference doubleheader.
