SB: Wise Becomes All-Time K Leader

NAPLES, Fla. - Fifth-year pitcher Josie Wise became the Bethany College softball program's all-time strikeout leader as the Bison took a pair of games from Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) teams on the second day of the Gene Cusic Classic. 

In posting the sweep, the team combined for 28 runs on 29 hits.  

GAME ONE: BETHANY 11, SAINT JOSEPH 2 (6 inn.) 

Bethany scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to bring the game to an run-ruled shortened ending. 

The Bison scored runs in five of the six innings. 

Senior Destiny Goodnight and graduate Morgan Huey set the offensive tone at the top of the order, combining to go 5-of-6 with six runs scores, three RBI, and four stolen bases. 

Freshman Olivia Kidd, junior Katelyn Ziems, junior Brooke Markland recorded two RBI each. 

Wise (3-0) allowed two earned runs on four hits over five innings with seven strikeouts. Sophomore Victoria Wehrberger earned the save, pitching a perfect sixth inning.  

GAME TWO: BETHANY 17, ELMS 2 (5 inn.) 

Bethany scored all 17 of its runs over the first two innings in securing its second run-ruled victory of the season.  

All nine starters scored at least one run, and eight of the nine starters were credited with a hit in the win.  

Senior Destiny Goodnight tied a program record with three steals, bringing her career total to 61. She was 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Senior Haley Eyler and Markland were each 2-for-2 with three RBI.  

Freshman Caitlin O'Farrell had her first multi-hit game of the season, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.  

Freshman Bella Belcher (1-0) earned her first win in relief, hurling the final three innings of the game. She allowed two runs on four hits with six strikeouts. Wehrberger allowed one hit with one strikeout over two innings in her second start of the season.
