BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - The Bethany College softball team split another Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader Wednesday, taking the first game from Geneva and losing the nightcap.
GAME ONE: BETHANY 3, GENEVA 2
Bethany scored all of its runs in the second inning and held on for the victory.
Junior Brooke Markland was singlehandedly responsible for the first run, singling to open the inning. She stole second, advanced the third on a wild pitch and then scored on a passed ball. Following a walk to freshman Amber Dedmon and a single by junior Trista Morris, freshman Caitlin O'Farrell brought home Dedmon with a single. Graduate Destiny Goodnight brought home Morris with a ground out.
Graduate Morgan Huey, sophomore Emma Jackson, and Markland all had two hits with Jackson having Bethany's lone extra base hit – a double.
Fifth-year Josie Wise (14-5) allowed two earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.
GAME TWO: GENEVA 7, BETHANY 2
Six different players – freshman Bella Jouzapaitis, Goodnight, Huey, Jackson, Dedmon, and O'Farrell - registered a hit and senior Haley Eyler recorded the lone RBI as Bethany fell in the nightcap.
Geneva scored in each of its last four innings to secure the victory.
Sophomore Victoria Wehrberger (4-3) allowed five runs on nine hits with three strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
Bethany (23-11-1 overall, 9-8 PAC) hosts Washington & Jefferson 1 p.m. Saturday in a crucial PAC doubleheader.
