Game Recap: Baseball |

Bison Sweep W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Bison ended their season with a sweep over Washington and Jefferson. Bethany started a hit parade early and carried it throughout the doubleheader. The offense combined for 23 hits. The starting pitching did their part as both starters combined for 16 ⅔ innings, only allowing one run each. Bethany won 7-1 and then 3-1, ending the season on a high note.

While the bats were flaming hot, Sonny Peluchette threw his second consecutive complete game victory in game one. He rarely missed his spot, allowing one run on a solo shot in the fourth. However, the Bison locked back in striking out eight batters. Much like last week, Peluchette finished with a low pitch count considering his volume. He only had 100 pitches thrown.

Grant Schaffner kickstarted the offense for the day. He lit the match with an RBI double in the very first inning. That fuse burned all the way into the dugout, with the Bison putting up 15 hits in the first game.

Gian DeGenova continued to see the ball well. He got the bat head in front and sent a two-run homerun over the left field wall in the second inning. DeGenova added another RBI in the fourth with a single, scoring Jaden Nestor-Fox for the third time.

Nestor-Fox had a stellar day. He was a collective 7-9 with a double, four runs scored, and an RBI. In game one, the second baseman went 5-5, the first time any Bison went perfect in five at bats all season. Nestor-Fox continued to see the ball well in his first at-bat of the second game, sending a solo shot to get the Bison on the board in the first inning.

While the Presidents tied the game in the second, starter Logan Bennett continued to pound the zone. The senior completed seven and two-third innings only allowing that run in the second inning. He allowed four hits, walked three batters, and picked up a strikeout to keep his WHIP under 1.00 on the day. The Bison bats picked up two runs in the sixth, giving Bennett the victory on the day.

Trey Mantle came in to pitch the last inning plus an out. Mantle earned the save, striking out one batter in a scoreless appearance.

Bethany improved from last year's season, going 12-24 as a whole and 7-13 in the conference. They will continue to grow next year on their brand new field in Bethany Park.
