WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Bethany College men's wrestling team competed at the Jeff Breese Invitational hosted by Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College at the Ross Recreation Center.
Bethany (2-2) was back in action at the Jeff Breese Invitational where they faced off against four other teams including fellow Presidents' Athletic Conference members Washington & Jefferson and Waynesburg (Pa.) University. The Bison finished with three bronze medalists, one fourth-place finisher, and one sixth-place finisher for a total of 56 team points. The host W&J took home the Invitational crown with 135.5 points.
Freshman
Harrison Spadoni (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) was Bethany's first medalist of the day after finishing third in the 133 bracket. Spadoni dropped his first match in the semifinals, but secured two falls including one in the third-place match to finish with a record of 2-1 on the day.Â
Junior 174-pounder
Jonathan Braun (Kenilworth, N.J./David Brearley) also finished in third place after going 2-0 in the consolation bracket with two 3-0 wins by fall.
Braun picked up his second Top-3 finish of the season.
Graduate heavyweight
Zach Kuneff (Martins Ferry, Ohio/Bridgeport) had a busy day as he secured Bethany's third third-place finish with two pins and a 4-3 decision victory in the consolation bracket championship.
Freshman
Caleigh Moon (Sickerville, N.J./Eastside Camden) also wrestled for the third-place prize in the 184-pound bracket, but fell in the first period earning him a fourth-place finish.Â
Freshman
Malaki Smith (Bloomington, Ill./Normal) was also back in action for the Bison at 165 where he wrestled in three close matches and finished sixth overall.
The Bison are back in action on Thursday, January 15 as they travel to Waynesburg, Pennsylvania to take on Waynesburg (Pa.) University in a Presidents' Athletic Conference dual at 7 p.m. inside Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
