STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - The Bethany College softball team swept the Franciscan University of Steubenville (Ohio) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader by final scores of 10-4 and 14-1 at the Franciscan Softball Field.
Game 1
At the Plate
- Junior All-PAC third baseman and PAC Hitter of the Week Emma Jackson (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) led the team going 3-for-4 with a homer, two RBI, and three runs scored
- Sophomore right-hander Trinity Edge (Franklin, Pa.) also went 3-for-4 and drove in an RBI
- Sophomore Academic All-PAC second baseman Caitlin O'Farrell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) was the third Bison with three hits and also knocked in two runs
- Sophomore left fielder Amber Dedmon (Canton, Ohio/Canton South) and freshman first baseman Jenna Nolan (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) each went 2-for-4
- Sophomore All-PAC catcher Olivia Kidd (Akron, Ohio/Mogadore) brought in the last Bethany run of the game with an RBI double
In the Circle
- Edge led the Bison both ways after pitching four innings allowing only three earned runs with four strikeouts
- Senior All-PAC right-hander Katelyn Ziems (Bowling Green, Ohio) threw three shutout innings for the save where fanned three Franciscan batters
Game 2
At the Plate
- Senior All-PAC shortstop Brooke Markland (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) only needed one hit to drive in three runs for the Bison and scored twice
- Nolan led the Bison offense with four RBI on 2-for-4 hitting with two doubles
- Edge finished with two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored
- Kidd also had a multi-hit game with two RBI and two runs
In the Circle
- Junior Academic All-PAC right-hander Victoria Wehrberger (Sebastian, Fla./Sebastian River) pitched three innings but picked up her fifth victory of the season after limiting the Barons to one earned run and striking out four
- Senior right-hander Bella Belcher (Parma Heights, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) tossed two hitless innings to earn her first career save where she had one strikeout and retired all six of her batters faced
The Bison are back in action Wednesday, March 25 as they host a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader against Hiram (Ohio) College beginning at 1 p.m. on Bison Field.
