Jackson Sets Single-Season Home Run Record, Softball Takes One from W&J to Close Regular Season

WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Bethany College softball team took on Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader where they won the first game by a final score of 5-1 and lost the second by a final score of 2-1 as senior All-PAC third baseman Emma Jackson (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) broke the single-season home run record at Brooks Park.

Bethany closed out a record-setting regular season but is far from finished as the Bison prepare for their third straight PAC Tournament appearance. The Bison jumped on top of W&J in Game 1 as senior All-PAC third baseman Emma Jackson (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) broke the program's single-season home run record by belting her ninth of the year over the wall in left. Jackson ends the regular season tied for eighth in the nation in homers and sits two out from the program's all-time record. Bethany earns the third seed and will now take on sixth-seeded Saint Vincent (Pa.) College in the first round and finishes the regular season with a record of 27-10 and a 15-7 record in the PAC. W&J concludes their season with a record of 17-19 and a 10-12 record in the PAC.

Game 1
At the Plate
  • Jackson finished 2-for-4 with a game-high four RBI including her record-setting three-run shot to left to open the scoring
  • Sophomore Academic All-PAC second baseman Caitlin O'Farrell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) also had two hits and tacked on the other BIson RBI with a base hit
  • Sophomore All-PAC catcher Olivia Kidd (Akron, Ohio/Mogadore), sophomore left fielder Amber Dedmon (Canton, Ohio/Canton South), and sophomore right-hander Trinity Edge (Franklin, Pa.) each had a multi-hit game with a run scored and a stolen base
  • Senior All-PAC shortstop Brooke Markland (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) and senior Academic All-PAC right fielder Trista Morris (Woodsfield, Ohio/Monroe Central) also went 2-for-4
  • The entire Bison lineup recorded a hit as senior All-PAC designated player Katelyn Ziems (Bowling Green, Ohio) and freshman first baseman Jenna Nolan (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) each had one of the Green and White's 16 hits
In the Circle
  • Edge struck out eight Presidents and allowed no earned runs with just four hits as she closes out the regular season with a record of 14-4
Game 2
At the Plate
  • Ziems delivered for the Bison once again with a solo shot in the fifth for the team's only score of the game
  • Edge notched a double for Bethany while Markland was the last player with a hit with both coming in the first inning
In the Circle
  • Junior Academic All-PAC right-hander Victoria Wehrberger (Sebastian, Fla./Sebastian River) stifled the W&J offense allowing only one earned run on five hits while adding three strikeouts
The Bison are back in action on Thursday, April 30 as they travel to New Wilmington, Pennsylvania to take on sixth-seeded Saint Vincent (Pa.) College in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament First Round at the Westminster Softball Field.
