Biography

  • Garvey has the most career Presidents Athletic Conference wins of any Bison head coach
  • Garvey has earned a reputation of success centered around the recruitment of top notch student-athletes committed to success on and off the field. His high octane offenses have attracted attention throughout the region and attracted some of the finest talent on the east coast to the mountaintop
  • Through seven seasons as the head coach of the green and white, Garvey has totaled an overall record of 29-42, which includes a 26-32 record against Presidents’ Athletic Conference opponents
  • The 2018 season Bethany finished 5-5 this season, 5-4 in the PAC, including a seven point loss to NCAA playoff bound Washington & Jefferson College and a three point set back against conference foe Carnegie Mellon University
  • Through his first five season as head coach of the Bison, Garvey totaled an overall record of 20-31, which includes a 17-13 record against PAC opponents. In three of his first five years, the Bison posted a .500 or better record against PAC counterparts
  • In 2016, the offense broke multiple single-game records, with quarterback Chase Kinemond setting the single-game record for completions (39) and total offense (511) in a game at Thiel
  • In 2014, Garvey led the Bison to their first winning record since 2001, coaching Bethany to a 6-4 mark and a berth in an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) bowl game
  • Prior to being named head coach, Garvey served as the offensive coordinator for the Bison and was the architect of some of the most prolific offensive season in school history
  • Over 80 school records have been broken, re-broken or tied in Garvey’s tenure; including eight in 2015. Quarterback Lincon Reyes broke the single-season touchdown passes record (24), while Eric Blinn broke the receiving touchdown mark (14) and Jalen Holmes with the rushing touchdown record (15)
  • Garvey’s offense helped Holmes achieve the best rushing season of any Bison in school history, as he shattered the marks for rushing touchdowns, rushing yards (1,353) and set the single-game, Bethany and PAC, mark for yardage (341)
  • In 2013, the Bison boasted the most prolific passing offense in the conference; averaging a league best 311.9 yards per game through the air. Quarterback Matt Grimard and Blinn also shattered Bison record books. Grimard threw for 3,100 yards and 23 touchdowns, while Blinn hauled in 95 catches for a school-record 1,300 yards and eight scores

Previous Coaching Experience

  • Spent two seasons as the offensive coordinator at NCAA Division II Stonehill (Mass.) College
  • Was an assistant at Harvard University (2000-2003), where he coached the offensive line and later wide receivers
  • Began his coaching career at Hofstra University working as a graduate assistant (1997-99)

Playing Career

  • Attended Iona College where he was a three-year member of the football team
  • Was on the 1993 squad that captured the MAAC Championship

Personal

  • Graduated from Iona College with his Bachelors of Business Administration in Management Information Systems
  • Garvey and his wife Gina, reside in Bethany with their children Emma, Will, Jack, and Grace
