Assistant coach Courtney Moyer enters her second season with the softball program and serves as coach of the infield and pitching staff.
In Moyer's first season with the Bison, she helped the Green & White pitching staff rank second in the Presidents' Athletic Conference in strikeouts (251) while sitting fourth in the conference in earned-run average (2.53).
Moyer helped the Bison's two primary starters to new career heights, as both Cassie Weiss and Sam Binkley tallied their best seasons to date.
Weiss was named a First-Team All-PAC selection and Third-Team NFCA All-Region pick, after setting a new Bethany single-season record for strikeouts (172). She appeared in 30 games on the season, starting in 24, while posting a career-low 2.30 ERA in 164.2 innings pitched.
Binkley, who spent the season as the second starter in the rotation, also tallied a career-low ERA, finishing the year with a 2.70. She pitched seven complete games while striking out 64 batters on the season.
Under Moyer's tutlage, the pitching duo accomplished a feat that the Bison have not seen since 2008, when Weiss and Binkley combined to pitched a doubleheader shutout against Grove City College on April 21. Weiss threw a one-hit shutout before Binkley tossed a three-hit gem.
Moyer came to Bethany after serving one season as a volunteer assistant coach with Denison University in Granville, Ohio. During one season as an assistant with the Big Red, Moyer helped Denison to a 22-19 record and an appearance in the NCAC Championship Game, where the team fell to NCAA Fifth-Place finisher DePauw University.
The Big Red ranked third in the NCAC in team batting average (.314), and belted 84 extra-base hits, including 64 doubles. She also helped senior Julie Rooney and freshman Lauren Secaras to First-Team NFCA All-Central Region honors. Rooney hit a league-leading .459 on the year with 62 hits and 44 runs scored, while Secaras ranked second in the NCAC in batting average (.431) and totaled 37 RBI.
Prior to a coaching stop at Denison, Moyer was a four-year letterwinner for Muskingum University. Moyer helped the Fighting Muskies to an Ohio Athletic Conference Championship during the 2013-14 season as she served as team co-captain, despite missing the season to injury
As a sophomore in 2011-12, Moyer tallied a career-high batting average (.345) while collecting 40 hits and driving in 28 RBI. 2012-13 was one of Moyer's best as she tallied a career-high 31 RBI and 18 runs scored.
Overall in four seasons, Moyer helped the Muskies to a 92-71 record, three winning seasons and a berth in the NCAA National Championship Tournament in 2014.
Moyer graduated Magna Cum Laude from Muskingum University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Art degree in Business with minors in Economics and Spanish.
A native of Granville, Ohio, Moyer is enrolled in Bethany’s Master of Art in Teaching program.
