Zach Sterling

Zach Sterling enters his second season with the Bison, and will serve as the team’s offensive line coach during the 2016 campaign.

In his first season at the helm of the offensive line, Sterling coached three players to All-PAC status, including second-team honoree Beau Bertus. Under his direction, the Bison “O-Line” paved the way for six 100-yard rushing performances, and helped running back Jalen Holmes break the conference’s single-game record with a 341-yard performance against Grove City College.

The Bison offensive line paved the way for the Bison offense to rank fifth in the PAC in both points per game (33.3) and yards per contest (409.1). Behind their blocking, Bethany averaged 179 yards per game on the ground.

Sterling came to Bethany from SUNY-Brockport where he served as the assistant offensive line coach for the Golden Eagles in 2014. Under his direction, the Golden Eagles ranked fifth in the Empire 8 in yards per carry (4.3) and were also named to the D3football.com Team of the Week in week 2.

Prior to his time as a coach, Sterling was a four-year player for Brockport, earning First-Team All-NJAC honors. That year, the Golden Eagles posted an 8-3 record and were named co-champs of the NJAC. The team also set a school mark of 2,354 rushing yards during the season.

A native of Ronkonkoma, N.Y., Sterling is enrolled in the Bethany Master of Arts in Teaching program.
