Oct. 27- LATROBE, Pa.- The Bethany College men's soccer team's comeback fell short, as it fell 2-1 at Saint Vincent in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match on Sunday afternoon.
Senior Lamine Balde (Guinea, West Africa/William L. Sayre) registered seven shots on the afternoon, to lead the Bison.
Freshman Callum Appleby (Maidstone, United Kingdom/ Maidstone Grammar School) registered eight saves in the game for the Bison, which was the second most saves in a single game for him this season.
Cody Dean scored the game's first goal in the 10th minute to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead. He got to the rebound after a deflected header and put it into the back of the net.
The Bison had their chances in the first half, including two corner kicks, but couldn't manage to get one past Eric Houghton as Saint Vincent took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
Scott Luthy gave the Bearcats a two goal advantage, as he scored on a breakaway in the 53rd minute.
The Bison came right back forty seconds later and responded with a goal of their own. Senior Arkangelo James (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) gave a pass to freshman John Brady (Aliquippa, Pa./Aliquippa) who ripped a shot into the back of the net for his first career goal. The assist for James is his seventh of the season, which ties a career-high.
Bethany had a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks but couldn't take advantage of the opportunities and would fall on the afternoon, 2-1.
Bethany returns to Hoag Field for its last home match of the season on Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 30) when it takes on Washington and Jefferson for its senior day at 3:00 p.m.
