AUG. 30- ERIE, Pa- The Bethany College men's soccer team (0-1) fell, 3-2, to Penn State-Behrend (1-0) in the opening round match of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament on Friday evening.
Anton Benedikt got the game's first goal for the Lions in the 41st minute, as he managed to get to the ball after a misplay by the Bison netminder and put the ball into the back of the net.
The Bison came right back to tie the game at 1 as senior Arkangelo James (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) converted a penalty kick in the 43rd minute.
Nick Stewart put the Lions in front for good in the 66th minute when he received a great pass from teammate Eric Vunovic and buried it in the back of the net.
The Lions would go on to add another goal in the 72nd minute to take the 3-1 victory in the season opener for both teams.
Bethany will take on Fredonia State in the consolation game tomorrow afternoon at 5:00 p.m. Fredonia State fell, 2-1, in overtime to Baldwin Wallace on Friday afternoon.
