Sept. 21- PITTSBURGH, Pa.-The Bethany College men's soccer team fell, 5-0, at Carnegie Mellon in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon at the Carnegie Mellon soccer field.
Christopher Madden earned his fifth victory of the season for the Tartans, as he made three saves to record his second shutout of the season.
Callum Appleby (Maidstone, United Kingdom/ Maidstone Grammar School) got his eighth start in net for the Bison and recorded two saves on the afternoon.
Bethany totaled seven shots, and were led by senior Arkangelo James (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) who had a team-high four shots and two shots on goal.
CMU opened the scoring in the 19th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Tristan Lockwood took a pass from Ben Bryant and Lockwood fired the ball at the Bison goalkeeper who initially stopped the shot, but Lockwood was able to get to the rebound and put it in the goal.
Lockwood assisted Max Tassano for the Tartan's second goal in the 22nd minute. Lockwood gave a one-touch pass to Tassano who fired the ball into the lower left corner of the net for his third goal of the season.
Lockwood gave CMU a 3-0 led, as he netted his third goal of the season in the 27th minute.
Freshman Jack Waters (Epsom, United Kingdom/Glyn School) fired a shot on the net in the 30th minute but Madden made a great save to keep the Bison off the scoreboard.
Tassano headed in a cross from Jerome Reano in the 40th minute for the Tartans fourth goal of the game.
James put a shot on net in the 42nd minute but it was saved by Madden.
Carnegie Mellon added a fifth goal of the game in the 60th minute to take home a 5-0 victory.
Bethany returns to the friendly confines of Hoag Field for its next game on Tuesday afternoon when they host Muskingum at 4:30 p.m.
