Oct. 18 - BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - The Bethany College Volleyball team found themselves in one of the best contests of the 2014 season, but ultimately fell, 3-2, to Geneva College on Saturday evening.
Neither team wanted to give an inch in the first game as the Bison finally overcame Geneva to take a 1-0 lead by a 30-28 score.
Game two was also taken by the Bison as the Green & White dominated the set, 25-10.
Geneva battled back in the next two games as they would capture game three by a 25-22 score and game four, 25-21, to knot the game at 2-2.
The fifth game saw 12 ties and six lead changes as the Bison held match point, up 14-12 on a kill by
Dylana McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum). Geneva, however, rallied by score six of the last eight points to take the final game 18-16, and the match, 3-2.
Offensively, the Bison were led by
Dakota McKenzie (Hopwell, Ohio/West Muskingum) who totaled 19 kills. Other double digit kill performances included
Dylana McKenzie,
Arielle Sanders (Maple Heights, Ohio/Maple Heights) and
Lynsie Mandt (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne). McKenzie notched 15 while Sanders registered 12 and Mandt, 10. Mandt also finished the match with her seventh double-double, adding a game high 20 digs.
Defensively, the Bison totaled 92 digs as five different players registered double figures. Mandt led the way while
Julia Mouch (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) notched 17.
Kelly Becquet (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) finished with 14 while
Haley Santymire (Clifton, Va./Centreville) notched 12.
Mackenzie Lauber (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison Mansfield) added 11 to go along with 51 assists.
The Bison will continue conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 22 when they travel to Crestview Hills, Ky. for a matchup with Thomas More. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
