Oct. 21 – GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Bethany College men's soccer team collected their first Presidents' Athletic Conference win of the season by defeating Thiel College, 2-0.
Bethany took the early 1-0 lead, as freshman Matt Jones (Goodyear, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) tallied his first goal of the season on a pass from freshman Ian Hayhurst (Fairmont, W.Va./East Fairmont) in the 24th minute of action.
The Bison would then add to their lead in the 42nd minute, as freshman Ryan Power (Sydney, Australia/Lisarow) found freshman Cihan Gunduz (Istanbul, Turkey) for the second goal of the game.
The score would remain the same as the Bison took the 2-0 advantage into intermission.
The first half saw the Bison come out aggressive on offense, logging eight shots with three coming on goal.
Freshman Richard Martinez (Miami, Fla./Southdade Senior) played well in net for the first 45 minutes, registering two saves on six Tomcat shots.
The second half saw the Bison play great defense as they went on to defeat Thiel by the same count, 2-0.
Bethany's offense was led by Jones and Gunduz. The two combined for two goals and five shots. Power also played well, registering an assist and logging five shots.
Martinez turned in a nice effort at goal playing all 90 minutes. He finished with five saves on 14 shots.
The Bison will look to continue their winning ways next on Saturday, Oct. 25 as they play host to PAC foe Saint Vincent College. Game time is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
