Bison Volleyball Splits a Pair at Christopher Newport Tri-Match

Oct. 25 – NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Bethany College volleyball team (21-12, 13-2 PAC) split a pair of matches in the Christopher Newport Tri-Match on Saturday afternoon. The Bison defeated Marymount University, 3-0, before falling to #13 Christopher Newport, 3-0.

Game one saw the Bison in complete control, as they swept Marymount in three sets (25-18, 25-16, and 25-22).

Offensively, Bethany was led by sophomores Dakota and Dylana McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio /West Muskingum). Dakota McKenzie finished the game with a team-high 11 kills, while Dylana McKenzie registered 10 kills. Senior Lynsie Mandt (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) and junior Mackenzie Lauber (Mansfield, Ohio /Madison Mansfield) also turned in nice performances. Mandt totaled eight kills, while Lauber amassed 33 assists.

Junior Julia Mouch (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) and senior Kelly Becquet (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) led the Bison defense in the first match. Mouch totaled a team-high 15 digs, while Becquet added seven.

The second match of the day saw Bethany play #13 Christopher Newport tough, but ultimately fall in three sets (27-25, 25-18, and 25-23).

The offense was led once again by both Dylana and Dakota McKenzie. Dylana finished with nine kills, while Dakota notched seven. Lauber was at it again with her passing ability, recording a team-high 24 assists.

Bethany's defense was spearheaded by Lauber and Becquet. Lauber had 11 digs, while Becquet added 10 digs. Mouch also played well, notching seven digs.  

The Bison will hit the court next on Tuesday, Oct. 28 as they play host to Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Saint Vincent College. Game time is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
