Bison Volleyball Sweeps Thiel In PAC Opener

Sept. 10 - GREENVILLE, Pa. - The Bethany College volleyball program (6-3, 1-0 PAC) opened Presidents' Athletic Conference play by earning a sweep over Thiel College on Wednesday evening.

The Bison showed resolve in the contest as they trailed in both the first and second games before comming back to take each by a 25-23 score, giving the Green & White a 2-0 lead. In game three, Bethany returned to form, putting on the pressure to run away from the Tomcats, taking the set, 25-16, and the match, 3-0.

In the contest, Dylana McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) led the way offensively, totaling 11 kills on the day. Dakota McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) also played well, finishing the contest with 10 kills. Together, the two have combined to lead the team in kills in every match so far this season.

Other offensive leaders for the Bison in the game included sophomore Arielle Sanders (Maple Heights, Ohio/Maple Heights) and junior Mackenzie Lauber (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison Mansfield). Sanders tied a season-high with nine kills while hitting .498 in the contest. Lauber also had a solid game, totaling eight kills to go along with 32 assists.

Defensively, the Bison totaled 55 digs in the three-set match, holding the Tomcats to a .137 hitting percentage in the game. Senior Lynsie Mandt (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) led the way for Bethany, registering 14 digs in the win. Junior Julia Mouch (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) and Haley Santymire (Clifton, Va./Centreville) also contributed to the win, totaling 13 and 10 digs, respectively.

The Bison, who have won 18 of their last 19 regular season conference contests, will be back in action on Saturday, September 13. Bethany will host three other schools on Saturday, including Chatham, Thomas More and Carnegie Mellon. The day's contests are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with the Bison taking on Chatham.
