Sept. 5 – LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Bethany College volleyball program (3-3) dropped a pair of matches to national ranked opponents on the first day of the Transylvania University Invitational on Friday evening. In the first match, the Bison dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 25 Millikin before falling in straight sets to tenth-ranked Juniata, 3-0.
Against Millikin, sophomore Dakota McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) anchored the Bison offense, registering 11 kills while hitting .214. Dylana McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) totaled seven kills in the contest, while Lynsie Mandt (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) finished with four. Mackenzie Lauber (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison Mansfield) totaled 18 assists and Julia Mouch (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) led the Bethany defense with eight digs.
In the second contest, Dakota McKenzie once again led the way, this time with eight kills. Sophomore Alexis Castro (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain) totaled five kills while Lauber notched 20 assists and four kills. Mouch finished in double-digit digs for the fifth time in six matches, as she registered 17 against the Eagles.
The Bison will return to action on the second day of the Transylvania Invitational when they will take on Covenant College at 10:30 before matching up with the host Pioneers at 2:30.
