Men's Soccer throttles Saint Vincent 5-1

Oct. 11 - BETHANY, W.Va. - The Bethany men's soccer team upended Saint Vincent 5-1 at Hoag Field on Tuesday in a Presidents Athletic Conference Matchup (PAC).

The Bison got an early jolt on offense when in the ninth minute Adam Franco (Inglewood, Calif./Carter) found Jack Waters (Epsom, United Kingdom/Glyn School) just inside the six-yard box where he dribbled and drilled it passed the keeper to take the 1-0 lead early.

Waters struck again from the left side in the 32nd minute when he took a pass from Jay O'Donnell(Cardiff, Wales/Radyr Comprehensive) and finished strong to give the Bison the 2-0 advantage, which they held until the break.

In the 52nd minute, the visitors got on the board when Zack Kocak received a cross from the left side and finished with a header to make it 2-1. However, the Bison responded instantly when Baboucar Sallah-Mohammed (Arlington, Va./Fishburne Military) went left on the Bearcats goalkeeper to regain the two-goal advantage.

Just minutes later, Ian Hayhurst (Fairmont W.Va./East Farimont) and Sallah-Mohammed each added a goal to up the Bison lead to 5-1, which would hold as the final.

In the win, Waters tallied his sixth and seventh goals of the year on nine shots, while Sallah-Mohammed picked up his third and fourth goals of the season on five shots. Hayhurst, a defender, netted his second goal of the season. As a team, the Bison recorded 30 shots with 12 on goal.

Senior goalkeeper Callum Appleby (Maidstone, United Kingdom/Maidstone) registered three saves in the win.

Bethany improves to 6-6-2 (2-1, PAC) on the year while Saint Vincent drops to 2-11 (1-2, PAC). The Bison travel to Washington and Jefferson on Saturday, October 16 for a game slated to start at 3:30 p.m.
