GETTYSBURG, Pa. (Sept. 1) – The Bethany College volleyball team was dealt a pair of losses on the first day of the Battlefield Classic. The Bison were defeated 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-20) by Arcadia in their first match, before falling to host-Gettysburg 3-1 (25-20, 25-18, 21-25, 25-19) in their second match of the evening.

BETHANY vs. ARCADIA MATCH NOTES
- Arcadia held the Bison to a .031 hitting percentage and only committed 12 errors in their 3-0 win in the opening match of the evening.
- Bethany freshman Jenna Scott (New Castle, Ind./Liberty Christian) led the Bison with six kills, while making her collegiate debut.
- Junior Reilly Parker (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) led the defense with 15 digs, while classmate Emily Duke (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville) added 12 assists in the game.
- Arcadia was led by Allison Elechko and Lizzie Joseph, who each had eight kills for the Knights in their win.
BETHANY vs. GETTYSBURG MATCH NOTES
- Gettysburg claimed the first and second sets, before the Bison rallied for a 25-20 win in the third set. The Bison forced 14 errors by the Bullets and held the hosts to a negative-.048 hitting percentage in the process.
- Bethany trailed in the third set 16-12, before rallying to tie the game at 18 apiece. The Bison went on to win seven of the next 10 points to close out the set.
- Bethany was unable to complete the comeback and were dealt a loss in the third set.
- Scott was the top offensive threat for the Bison once again. She finished with 11 kills to lead the team.
- Senior Sumayyah Muhammad (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding) and sophomore Katie Sparks (Macedonia, Ohio/Trinity) each chipped in eight kills. Muhammad added six blocks (two solo), while Sparks finished with 10 digs.
- Sophomore Emily Griffith (Bridgeport, W.Va./Bridgeport) guided the offense with a career-high 25 assists, while Parker led the defensive efforts with 35 digs in the loss.

- The Bison will wrap-up play at the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic tomorrow, September 2 when they take on St. Mary (Md.) at noon and Muhlenberg around 2 p.m.
