Bethany, W.Va. – The Bethany College men's soccer team advances to the Presidents' Athletic Conference playoffs for the first time since 2018 after a thrilling double overtime 2-1 victory over the Washington & Jefferson Presidents Wednesday evening.
THE HIGHLIGHTS
- The Presidents scored at the 14:38 mark to take a 1-0 lead
- A Lucas Puebla assist led to a Ramiro Veiga goal knotting the match at 1-1 in the 49th minute
- The match went scoreless until the second overtime when Modou Faye dished a beautiful cross pass to Ramiro Veiga to seal the Bison victory
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Bison took 25 shots compared to the President's five
- The fouls were even at 15 and the Bison took six corner kicks
- Bethany's Matteo Pintus recorded one save in goal
- Ramiro Veiga has four goals and three assists on the season with two game winning goals
MATCH NOTES
- The Bison won the last five of six matches to close out the regular season and to clinch a spot in the PAC post-season
- The post-season appearance is the first appearance since head coach Frankie Taal took over the reins of the Bison
- The Men's Soccer team has a league-best 30 PAC titles, with the last coming in 2001
- Bethany honored it's seniors Ment Hadgu and Matt Hausafus prior to the match for their contributions to the program and college
