Bethany, W. Va. – The Bethany College men's basketball hosted the Washington and Jefferson Presidents in a Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) contest Wednesday evening. Bethany College recognized its two seniors this afternoon for their hard work and dedication to the men's basketball team.
Despite having four Bison in double-figures, the Bison fell to the Presidents 71-60. Asa Klimchock led with 14 points. Seniors Dalton Hamrick and Dylan Furlong had 12 points and 11 points respectively. Freshman Travis Zimmerman had his first career double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
GAME OVERVIEW
Washington and Jefferson took an early lead and held onto it leading to the victory. Bethany got on the board after an Asa Klimchock jumper, cutting the lead in half, 4-2. The Bison kept the Presidents close throughout the first half. A Derek White Jr. three cut the deficit to three, 22-19, with under two minutes to go before the break. The Presidents added to the lead after back-to-back buckets with 1:01 to go.
The Green and White were determined to head into the break with momentum, after a triple from Dylan Furlong and a buzzer beater jumper from Asa Klimchock cut the Presidents' lead 26-24 heading into the intermission.
The Presidents built a six point lead to kick start the second half. Travis Zimmerman picked off a bad pass and slammed it down to score the Bison's first points of the second half. Moments later, Julian McGee laid one in to cut the W&J lead to 30-28.
It was a neck-and-neck battle for much of the second half. A Zimmerman bucket brought the Bison within one, 36-35 with under 14 minutes to go. The Presidents began to pull away in the final ten minutes of play after scoring seven straight and building a 45-37 lead, but a Bison run of their own close the gap to four, 46-42.
After a 10-0 run, W&J would seal the win, putting the game out of reach for the Bison.
