BETHANY, W.Va. – The Bethany College women's basketball team opened the 2022-23 season against Muskingum University inside Hummel Field House Friday evening. The Fighting Muskies used a strong start to defeat the Bison, 82-54.
GAME FLOW
- Muskingum went up 9-0 in the opening four minutes of play.
- Bethany's Lindsey Garrison scored the Bison's first points of the season on a layup to cut the lead to seven, with 6:01 left in the first quarter.
- The Bison were held scoreless until 3:21 mark after Samaria Murry scored her first points of the season.
- Bethany went on an 8-3 run to close out the first period, trailing 18-10.
- Francesca Mulas scored off of a Muskies turnover cutting the deficit to six to start the second quarter.
- The Fighting Muskies would go up by 16 points in the second quarter. Bethany trailed 36-22 at the halftime intermission.
- Muskingum continued to keep momentum into the second half expanding their lead to 60-40 heading into the final quarter of play.
- In the fourth quarter, the Fighting Muskies continued their dominance over the Bison, extending their lead. The Fighting Muskies outscore the Bison 22-14 in the fourth quarter.
IN THE BOX SCORE
- Junior Makenzee Mason and sophomore Lindsey Garrison led the Bison with 11 points each.
- Mason led the Bison with seven rebounds and three steals.
- Ashleigh Wheeler added eight points followed by Samaria Murry's six and Alexis Heap's five.
- The Fighting Muskies shot a hot 51.6% from the field while the Bison were held to 32.7%
- The Bison finished the match shooting 16.7% (3-for-18) from behind the arc
- Muskingum out rebounded the Bison 34-29 with 11 offensive rebounds.
