BETHANY, W.Va. – The Bethany College women's basketball team opened the 2023-24 season with a 68-60 win over Penn State-Beaver inside Hummel Field House Wednesday evening.
GAME FLOW
- After suffering a season ending injury last season, junior Lindsey Garrison scored the first bucket of the season.
- It was a slow start of the game with a total of 16 points being scored in the first five minutes of the game, when Garrison hit a three to give the Green and White an 11-5 lead. The Lions battled back and forth to keep the game close, the Bison led 21-17 after the first stanza.
- The second quarter saw just 18 points with the Bison edging the Lions, 11-7.
- Despite the Lions outscoring the Bison, 21-17 in the third quarter, the Green and White led 49-45.
- In the fourth quarter, the Lions continued to claw to keep themselves in the game. Alyssa Serenksy hit a three to extend the Bison lead, 52-45. The Lions responded with a three of their own. With 5:19 to go, the Bison extended their lead to double-digits when Josie Stone made one-of-two free throws. Bethany led, 58-48.
- In the final half of the quarter, the Lions continued to cut into the lead. With under two minutes to go, the Lions hit a three cutting the deficit, 63-59.
- A Garrison three with 42 seconds left would seal a Bison victory.
