Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bird Boosts Bison Past Geneva

Beaver Falls, Pa.- The Bethany Bison gave the homecoming crowd something to cheer about, as the women's soccer team brought home a Presidents Athletic Conference win over the Geneva Golden Tornadoes.

Monica Bird continued her hot streak. The captain scored both of the Bison's goals, bumping her weekly total up to four total goals (the other two coming in a 2-1 win against Franciscan).

The Bethany offense didn't start off firing like the score suggested. Geneva was the team that was able to execute their plan to start. The Golden Tornadoes began the game firing six unanswered shots in a 20 minute stretch, followed by four corners.

None of those shots snuck past goalkeeper Hope Fair, who finished the game with seven saves. This performance put her in double digit territory for the week (10).

The Bison offense took form after a halftime speech. They rattled off five shots and a goal within the first 10 minutes of the half.

Bird's second goal almost never came to be. Jada Benjamin created some space on  counter attack. She sent a ball flying towards the goal, only to barely miss wide and connect with the right post. Bethany rallied, and Bird finished the attack to put the Bison up 2-0 with 30 minutes to play.

The Bison dropped back on defense for the remainder of the game. Fair stayed strong in goal growing confidence with each save.

Geneva outshot Bethany in the box score in terms of shots (17-11), but the scoreboard remained elusive for the Golden Tornadoes. Bethany finished with their third shutout of the year.

The Bison (6-4-3) will begin a three game home stretch next Saturday, October 19th. They'll welcome Allegheny (7-5-1) to Hoag Field for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
