Junior Cole Dailey set a new single-game blocks record and registered his second double-double of the season as the Bethany College men's basketball team improved to 2-0 with the 95-87 win Wednesday over Penn State-Beaver on Joe Kurey Memorial Court inside the Hummel Field House.
Dailey, who is on the verge on establishing a new career blocks record, finished with eight rejections to go along with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Eleven of his 12 boards were on the defensive end.
Bethany scored 14 consecutive points during a 19-2 run that opened up the lead. Defense was the key to the spurt as the Bison forced eight turnovers during the game-changing run.
The Bison lead ballooned to as much as 26 points before Penn State-Beaver started to crawl back into the game. Most of the Lions points as they continued to trim into the BC lead came from the free throw line. Penn State-Beaver went 17-of-22 from the charity stripe in the last 10 minutes of the game.
However, Bethany made enough plays down the stretch to secure the victory.
Sophomore Will Brooks registered his first double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while junior Ryan Reasbeck added 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting, three steals, three rebounds and two assists.
Freshman Jess Roller continued his stellar play off the bench with 15 points and four rebounds.
Bethany (2-0) remains home, hosting Penn State-Shenango 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
