The Bethany College men's basketball team got off to a blistering start, but ultimately fell to Grove City Saturday, 98-87, in Presidents' Athletic Conference action on Joe Kurey Memorial Court inside Hummel Field House.
Scoring on eight of their first 10 possessions, Bethany built a 13-point lead (21-8). From that point, the game featured some ebbs and flows with GCC having an immediate 12-2 response to pull to within three.
Bethany's lead was back to 10, and down to four, and back up to 12 in the opening half. When the dust was settled after 20 minutes, the Bison led by eight at the break.
A 9-0 Grove City run gave the visitors their first lead of the game with 12:57 remaining, but BC quickly reclaimed its advantage. Six consecutive Wolverine points gave GCC a lead it wouldn't relinquish.
Four players, led by junior Troy Hixson, tallied double figures for the Bison. Hixson finished with 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting, marking the third time in four games he tallied at least 20 points.
Junior Ryan Reasbeck added 16 points and a career-high eight rebounds with three assists, while junior Cole Dailey chipped in with 13 points, four rebounds, and a team-high four assists. Freshman Jess Roller completed the quad of double-digit scorers with 11 points.
Bethany (5-8 overall, 0-8 PAC) travels to Westminster 8 p.m. Wednesday. It marks the first meeting between the two teams as the November 20 game was postponed due to a lighting issue. The home game will now be played on February 3.
