Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Bison Can't Close Out vs MVNU

MOUNT VERNON, OH.- Coming off their first win in program history, Bethany hunted for their first road win. The Bison traveled to Ohio to battle against the NAIA Mount Vernon Nazarene University Cougars (MVNU).

Despite leading in each set, the Bison were unable to keep the momentum flowing until that 25 point threshold. They were swept by the Cougars in three sets.

Bethany came into the game with momentum from their previous victory. The Bison extended their slight lead to a 9-5 lead, but the Cougars were able to rally back and take over set one.

Set two was even more of a neck and neck battle. The Bison would fall behind, then immediately tie the game. Tied 9-9, the Bison took their lead with a kill from Riley Burdett and extended it with a service ace from Logan Mills.

Both teams would continue to trade blows until the second set stood a 15-15 standstill. MVNU began to go on a run that Bethany attempted to neutralize with a timeout. MVNU did not startle, taking a clean set two.

Set three was practically a replay of set one, only the Bison did not take as big of an early lead. After battling ahead 7-6 over the Cougars, Bethany began to falter. MVNU took set three, ending the match.

INSIDE THE BOX & NOTES:

  • Unlike their victory over Carlow where they set a program record of 25 aces, the Bison only had two throughout this three set battle.

  • Burdett led the team with 3.5 points, boosted by his three kills.

  • Gavin McAllister and Rylan Trapp each had two block assists

The Bison will hope to cash in on their home success this Saturday in a tri-meet in Hummel Field House. Their first match will be against Buffalo State at 11 a.m. Bethany's matchup against St. Mary Woods will be the third match of the day.
