Bird Scores Four as Women's Soccer Rolls Past Thiel to Close 2025 Season

BETHANY, W.Va. - The Bethany College women's soccer team defeated Thiel (Pa.) College by a final score of 6-1 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference game to conclude the 2025 season at Hoag Field.

Bethany closed the 2025 campaign with the team's first conference win and their best offensive showing of the year as seven different Bison either scored or assisted on the team's six goals. Senior All-PAC forward Monica Bird (McKinnon, Antigua/St. Anthony's Secondary School) led the way with four of the Green and White's six goals for a new career-high and falling just one shy of the program single-game record. The Bison finish the season with an overall record of 2-14 and a 1-10 in the PAC while Thiel ends 2025 with an 0-16 overall record and an 0-10 conference record.

  • Senior forward Shunnye Christopher (Bathlodge, Antigua/Christ the King) finishes the season tied for the team-lead in points as she scored her fifth goal of the season and recorded two assists 
  • Senior Academic All-PAC defender Jazmin Gonzalez (San Angelo, Texas) notched her first career goal and her first career assist to finish with three points in her final game at Hoag Field
  • Junior Academic All-PAC forward Brionna Bash (Niles, Ohio/Niles McKinley) tied a game-high two assists
  • Senior All-PAC midfielder Brooke Fuleki (Baltimore, Ohio/Bloom-Carroll), senior defender Emily Wenger (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff), senior Academic All-PAC forward Mallory Peyton (Joppa, Md./Harford Technical), and junior Academic All-PAC defender Chloe Lee (Huntington, W.Va./St. Joseph Central Catholic) all recorded an assist in their last game for the Green and White
  • Defender Emma Fleckenstein (Huntington, W.Va./St. Joseph Central Catholic), Academic All-PAC forward Lauren Cooper (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key), Academic All-PAC midfielder Gabby Hicks (Chinchilla, Australia), forward Grace Schweickert (Hiram, Ohio/Crestwood), and Academic All-PAC midfielder Timberlyn Blankenship (Ada, Ohio) each added to the barrage of Bethany shots in the final games of their careers

  • Sophomore goalkeeper Madison Rodgers saved a game-high nine shots

  • 13:17 - Christopher advanced it to Gonzalez who crossed it to Bird for the game-winning goal
  • 24:19 - Bird found the back of the net for the second time thanks to a pass from Fuleki

  • 45:27 - Not even half a minute into the second period, Bird completed the hat trick after a long pass from Bash
  • 79:58 - Peyton's corner kick led to a Wenger header which then resulted in Bird's fourth goal of the game
  • 85:55 - Gonzalez's shot from deep snuck over the keeper's head to put the Bison up by five
  • 87:45 - Another corner kick this time by Bash set up a header from Lee and then Christopher's final collegiate goal
