Football Falls to Waynesburg on Senior Day

BETHANY, W.Va. - The Bethany College football team celebrated Senior Day as they fell to Waynesburg (Pa.) University in a Presidents' Athletic Conference game by a final score of 48-28 on Don Ault Field at Bison Stadium. 

Prior to the game, Bethany (0-8, 0-6 PAC) honored seniors Jaden Allen (Euless, Texas), Khaleel Berry (Peoria, Ill./Jenks), Roman Frankovich (Pittsburgh, Pa./Our Lady of the Sacred Heart), Gabriel Hernandez (Alhambra, Calif.), Xavier Lewis-Everson (Hampton, Va./Bethel), Elijah Moffatt (Atlanta, Ga./New Manchester), TJ Owensby (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota West), Jordan Shannon (Seattle, Wash./Kennedy Catholic), and Amarion Williams (Miami, Fla./South Dade). The Green and White were firing on all cylinders after holding Waynesburg (3-6, 3-4 PAC) scoreless through the first quarter and took a three-point lead early in the second period before the Yellow Jackets went on to score two straight touchdowns and took a 14-6 lead into the half. However, a big third quarter lifted Waynesburg despite the Bison edging the Yellow Jackets with 15 points in the final frame.
 
Bethany Leaders

  • Junior All-PAC quarterback Brett Phillips (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) eclipsed 1,000 passing yards on the season after throwing for 286 against the Yellow Jackets going 28-for-43 with two touchdowns. He also picked up 105 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown
  • Graduate Academic All-PAC running back TJ Owensby (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota West) led the backs with 30 yards rushing in his final home game
  • Sophomore receiver Mykel Davis (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) recorded his second-straight 100+ yard game after tallying nine catches for a career-high 126 yards and a touchdown. Junior Jkobe Jones (Seffner, Fla./Seffner Christian Academy) had 61 yards on the day despite having only three receptions, and sophomore Jacob Burns (Charleston, W.Va./Herbert Hoover) had six catches for 44 yards and one touchdown
  • Sophomore defensive back Blaike Adams (Parsons, W.Va./Tucker County) had a career-high 12 tackles to lead the Green and White defense while junior Academic All-PAC linebacker Cam Bailey (Huntington, W.Va./Spring Valley) and junior linebacker Charlie DiSaia (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) each registered eight tackles
  • Senior All-PAC defensive end Amarion Williams (Miami, Fla./South Dade) and senior defensive back Khaleel Berry (Peoria, Ill./Jenks) finished with six tackles and four tackles, respectively, while Berry also broke up three passes
Waynesburg Leaders
  • Junior running back Carson Shriver ran for 229 yards and one touchdown on 24 carries for an average of 9.5 yards an attempt
  • Senior quarterback Thomas Burke III only attempted 15 passes but completed 10 of them including two touchdown passes for 167 yards on the day
  • Junior Tyler Richmond led the Waynesburg receivers with three catches for 86 yards and a touchdown
  • Junior linebacker Kevin Willis had a game-high 13 tackles including nine solos
Second Quarter (Waynesburg 14-6)
  • 11:26 - Sophomore kicker Caden Langley (Wellsburg, W.Va./Brooke) drilled a 31-yard field goal to give the Bison their first lead of the season
  • 0:06 - Langley's 37-yard buzzer beater cut the Yellow Jackets lead to eight going into halftime
Third Quarter (Waynesburg 35-13)
  • 3:58 - Phillips connected with Davis in the endzone to make up for a would-be Bison touchdown being called back just two plays prior (Langley kick good)
Fourth Quarter (Waynesburg 48-21)
  • 6:57 - Phillips walked in for his first score of the day (Adams headed the fake field goal and flipped it to Williams for the two-point conversion in his final game at Bison Stadium)
  • 1:07 - Burns punctuated a quick Bethany drive with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Phillips (Langley kick good)
The Bison are back in action Saturday, November 1 as they travel to Greenville, Pennsylvania to take on Thiel (Pa.) College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference game at 1 p.m. at Alumni Stadium at Stoeber Field.
