JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Bethany College women's wrestling team defeated the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown (Pa.) by a final score of 29-18 in a dual meet at the Pitt-Johnstown Sports Center.
It was a battle of two teams with some of the best wrestlers in the nation as Bethany (5-1) had a tall task in front of them in Pitt-Johnstown (1-1). Although the Mountain Cats were short-handed, the Bison earned victories in two crucial matches to win their fifth straight and to stay hot heading into a full weekend of duals.
Freshman 131-pounder
Rose Mary Dodd (Lake Elsinore, Calif./Temescal Canyon) got the first win of the night for the Green and White after Pitt-Johnstown cut its deficit to one with two straight victories including freshman
Taelor Rae Busch (Omaha, Neb./Mercy) taking on No. 14 nationally ranked Tamara Humphries at 117.
Dodd started and ended the period with a four-point throw while adding a takedown in her 10-0 tech fall to put the Bison up 14-9.
After freshman
Ari Tyson's (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) bout with No. 20 nationally ranked 138-pounder Makayla Paclib, sophomore
Jasmine Craddock (Chesterfield, Va./Thomas Dale) had the opportunity to earn some points back for the Bison and to secure a victory.
Craddock was able to get another four-point throw for the Bison just before pinning the Mountain Cats' 145-pounder giving Bethany a 19-13 lead and the dual win following two more Pitt-Johnstown forfeits.
The Bison are back in action on Sunday, November 23 as they travel to University Heights, Ohio to compete at the JCU Duals hosted by John
