BETHANY, W.Va. - The Bethany College women's wrestling team defeated Penn State University-Altoona by a final score of 44-5 in the program's inaugural home dual on Joe Kurey Memorial Court inside Hummel Fieldhouse.
Bethany (9-2) made history Thursday night as they hosted the first women's wrestling meet in school history where they went on to defeat Penn State-Altoona (1-10) to extend their team winning streak to four. Junior 103-pounder
McKenna Acampora (Bordentown, N.J.) got the starting nod and became the first wrestler in program history to compete on the Green and White's home turf.
At 131, freshman
Rose Mary Dodd (Lake Elsinore, Calif./Temescal Canyon) went head to head with the Lions' Richele Reyes. After Reyes cut
Dodd's early lead to two, the Bison first-year rattled off 10 straight points to secure the 14-4 tech fall and the first home match victory in Bethany history.
Freshman
Ari Tyson (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) followed in the 138 match where she was matched up against the Lions' 131 pounder who was wrestling up following a late withdrawal.
Tyson used a series of takedowns on her way to a dominant 12-1 tech fall to give the Bison a 24-5 advantage in the dual.
Freshman
Ava Paul (Deptford, N.J./Deptford Township) then wrapped up the day for the Bison with an exhibition match against Altoona's Naomi Nachmias. Knotted up at two with a minute left in the first period,
Paul completed a four-point throw just before pinning Nachmias to cap off a historic night at Hummel Fieldhouse.
The Bison are back in action on Sunday, January 4 as they travel to York, Pennsylvania to compete in the York Tri-Match hosted by York (Pa.) College at 1 p.m. in M&T Bank Field House.
