Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

WBB: PAC Berth Clinched

LATROBE, Pa. - On the strength of an 11-0 run late in the third quarter, the Bethany College women's basketball qualified for the Presidents' Athletic Conference tournament with a 55-47 win over Saint Vincent Wednesday.

Saint Vincent came out of halftime with the first six points to claim its first lead since briefly holding a one-point lead in the second quarter. But, the Bison had the epic response with 11 straight as sophomore Kate Botti sparked the spurt with a three-pointer that gave Bethany the lead it wouldn't relinquish.

Senior Lindsey Garrison scored six points, four on free throws, and junior Kaedlee Potter tallied the other bucket. A Saint Vincent basket at the end of the quarter snapped the run, but Garrison opened the final quarter with a three-pointer to push the lead to double figures.

Three consecutive turnovers late in the period enabled the Bearcats to pull to within five points. However, Bethany settled down after a timeout and put the game away from the free throw line.

Bethany put together another stellar first quarter, opening up an eight-point lead, and led by seven after the first. Saint Vincent used a 13-5 run in the second quarter to take the aforementioned one-point advantage, but the Bison scored the last five points to take a halftime lead.

Seniors Ashleigh Wheeler and Garrison combined for 26 points, 13 from each, while Wheeler added four rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Potter added a team-high 11 rebounds.

INSIDE THE BOX & NOTES

  • Bethany has reached the PAC tournament in all three seasons under head coach Mikayla Lopez.
  • Potter has pulled down double-digit rebounds in five games this season. She came up two points shy of recording her fifth double-double of the season.
  • Garrison connected on her 199th three-pointer, leaving her five triples from tying the program record.

Bethany (13-11 overall, 10-9 PAC) welcomes Allegheny to Hummel Field House 1 p.m. Saturday for Senior Day as the program will honor the contributions of Garrison and Wheeler. A win, combined with a Saint Vincent loss to Grove City, would elevate BC to the fifth seed.
