NAPLES, Fla. - The Bethany College softball team remained unbeaten on the season and didn't allow a run in winning both games at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic Tuesday.
GAME ONE: BETHANY 13, LESLEY 0
The Bison took advantage of nine Lesley errors in scoring 13 runs in the first three innings, including an eight-run third inning.
Freshman Olivia Kidd went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI. It's her third multi-hit game of the season. Graduate Destiny Goodnight and freshman Amber Dedmon were each 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Dedmon added an RBI and two stolen bases.
Katelyn Ziems (2-0) didn't allow a run on three hits over four innings with four strikeouts.
GAME TWO: BETHANY 4, POTSDAM 0
Graduate Morgan Huey was a home run shy of the cycle and Bethany pitching allowed just two hits as the Bison ran its record to 8-0.
Huey tripled and scored in the first inning, singled in the third inning, and doubled and scored in the fifth inning. She grounded out in the seventh with a chance to complete the cycle.
As Huey was causing the Bears fits at the plate, fifth-year Josie Wise was hurling a masterpiece in the circle. Wise (5-0) allowed one baserunner, a walk in the third inning, over 5.1 innings.
Bethany took the lead with two runs in the first on a pair of groundouts. A sacrifice fly by junior Brooke Markland scored Goodnight in the third, and the scoring was capped as Huey scored on a Markland RBI single in the fifth.
Bethany (8-0) concludes its Spring Break trip with a pair of games – SUNY Cobleskill (9 a.m.) and Saint Joseph (11 a.m.) Wednesday.
