Men's Soccer Drops Offensive Showdown to Muskingum

BETHANY, W.Va. - The Bethany College men's soccer team fell to Muskingum (Ohio) University by final score of 5-2 in a non-conference game at Hoag Field.

Bethany (1-2-2) Leaders

  • Sophomore forward Derieck Hernandez (New Orleans, La./Kenner Discovery) scored one goal and took a team-high four shots with two on goal 
  • Academic All-PAC freshman midfielder Alessio De Pippo (Conroe, Texas/The Woodlands College Park) recorded his first-career point with an assist and took three shots with two on goal
  • Senior forward Ian Stempler (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Farmingdale College) only needed one shot on goal to score his second goal of the season
  • Junior forward Santiago Waites (Birmingham, Ala./Oak Mountain) made it two straight games with a point after tallying one assist
Muskingum (5-2) Leaders
  • Freshman goalkeeper Jack Thamann recorded a game-high eight saves
  • Freshman defender Owen Seputis led the Fighting Muskies with two shots on goal and scored one goal

First Half (Muskingum 3-1)

  • 24:59 - Seputis's header from senior forward Morgan McKenna put Muskingum on the board first
  • 31:15 - Hernandez scored the equalizer off a pass from De Pippo
  • 32:04 - Junior midfielder Garrett Pugh took it all by himself to give the Fighting Muskies the lead
  • 37:20 - Junior midfielder Terrance Wright found senior forward Colton Cunningham for another Muskie goal
Second Half (Muskingum 5-2)
  • 50:36 - Junior midfielder Hunter Keivens took advantage with an open goal and put Muskingum up by three
  • 61:11 - The speedy Waites found an open Stempler who tapped it in for another Green and White goal
  • 80:04 - Junior midfielder Jacob Gulu closed the scoring with an unassisted goal
The Bison are back in action on Saturday, September 20 as they host a non-conference game against Ohio Wesleyan University at 1 p.m. at Hoag Field.
