BETHANY, W.Va. - The Bethany College men's soccer team fell to Grove City (Pa.) College by final score of 5-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference opener on Don Ault Field at Bison Stadium.
Bethany (1-4-2, 0-1 PAC) Leaders
- Senior forward Ian Stempler (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Farmingdale College) scored his team-leading third goal of the season and is now tied for ninth among scorers in the PAC
- Academic All-PAC freshman midfielder Alessio De Pippo (Conroe, Texas/The Woodlands College Park) recorded his second assist of the season to give him sole possession of the team lead
- Junior midfielder Ricardo Diaz (Sacramento, Calif./Del Campo) took a team-high two shots against the Wolverines
- Junior goalkeepers Adam Imhulse (Cincinnati, Ohio/Finneytown) and Peyton Thomassy (Cumberland, Md./Allegany) recorded four saves and one save, respectively
Grove City (4-2-1, 1-0 PAC) Leaders
- Junior midfielder Ryan Merrick scored two goals including the gamewinner
- Junior midfielder Noah Gray took a game-high five shots and scored one goal
- Junior forward Carlo Denis also scored for the Wolverines
- Junior defender Theo Campbell and senior midfielder Matt Herrmann each added an assist to fuel the Grove City offense
First Half (Grove City 2-1)
- 1:02 - A long pass from Herrmann led to a chip shot for Denis just a minute into regulation
- 8:03 - Stempler's header put the Bison on the board off a pass from De Pippo
- 16:09 - Campbell fed Merrick for his first of two goals
Second Half (Grove City 4-1)
- 53:09 - Gray led a fast break and fed Merrick for the first score of the second period
- 58:06 - Gray took advantage of an open goal to make it three unanswered goals for the Wolverines
The Bison are back in action on Saturday, September 27 as they travel to Waynesburg, Pennsylvania to take on Waynesburg (Pa.) University in a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup at 1 p.m. at John F. Wiley Field.
