Baseball Splits Final Day of Pitt-Bradford Series

BETHANY, W.Va. - The Bethany College baseball team took on the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford (Pa.) in a non-conference doubleheader where they won the first game by a final score of 5-3 and lost the second by a final score of 7-2 at Bethany Park.

Game 1
Scoring Plays
  • Bottom 1st -  Sophomore designated hitter Marco Gonzalez (Oviedo, Fla.) got the scoring started with an RBI single
  • Bottom 5th - Senior All-PAC second baseman Jaden Nestor-Fox (Vermilion, Ohio) drove in two more runs with a single to right
  • Bottom 5th - Junior Academic All-PAC first baseman Gian DeGenova (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) teed off on a two-run bomb
On the Mound
  • Freshman left-hander Noah Stonerock (Circleville, Ohio/Westfall) pitched 5.1 innings and allowed only one run on five hits and three walks to earn the win
  • Freshman right-hander Landon Holley (Cecil, Pa./Canon-McMillan) struck out two in one inning of work holding Pitt-Bradford to two runs
  • Senior right-hander Payton Zupko (Mineral Ridge, Ohio) picked up his second save of the year with two strikeouts to retire the Panthers in the ninth

  • Bottom 1st - DeGenova hit a sac fly to center as the Bison struck first once again
  • Bottom 7th - DeGenova smacked his second homer of the day
On the Mound
  • Freshman left-hander Matthew Stathos (Batavia, Ohio/West Clermont) made his collegiate debut where he gave up only one earned run and added one strikeout
  • Freshman right-hander Chris Stathos (Batavia, Ohio/West Clermont) threw one inning and allowed three earned runs in relief of his brother
  • Junior left-hander Tristan Simrau (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City West) pitched the final three innings where he had two strikeouts and limited the Panthers to three hits
The Bison are back in action Saturday, February 28 as they host Penn State University-Beaver in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at Bethany Park.
