Smith Notches Hat Trick as Men's Lacrosse Falls to Hanover

BETHANY, W.Va. - The Bethany College men's lacrosse team fell to the Hanover (Ind.) College by a final score of 25-6 in a non-conference game on Don Ault Field at Bison Stadium. 

Bethany (0-2) Leaders
  • Freshman midfielder Levi Connally (Prince George's County, Md./Frederick Douglass) tallied 14 ground balls to lead the Bison while also scoring his first collegiate goal
  • Sophomore Academic All-PAC midfielder Chance Funari (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) did it all for Bethany with one goal, 10 ground balls, and two caused turnovers
  • Senior attack Justice Smith (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) recorded his fourth career hat trick after scoring three goals on nine shots as he also picked up two ground balls
  • Freshman defender Braden Jones (Essex, Md./Kenwood) finished with six ground balls and one goal
  • Junior All-PAC defender Matthew Rees (Butler, Pa./Butler Area), junior attack Alex Neu-Houdieshell (Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley), and junior midfielder Griffen Carpenter (Stow, Ohio) each notched an assist and two ground balls 
  • Sophomore midfielder Corrie Miller (Etters, Pa./Red Lands) added seven ground balls
  • Junior midfielder Abdul Lowe (Manassas, Va./Osbourn) helped the Green and White win 21 of his 29 face-offs while also picking up four ground balls
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Owen Livengood (York, Pa./York Suburban) made 11 saves while freshman Darwin Ruiz (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern) finished the game and added four saves
Hanover (1-2) Leaders
  • Freshman attack Jack Deweese led the Panthers with six goals and four assists
  • Sophomore midfielder Kasey Hospelhorn tied a team-high eight ground balls and added six points
  • Senior goalkeeper Matthew Hillard made one save allowing just one goal
First Quarter (Hanover 8-1)
  • 6:41 - Rees found Justice downfield to put the Bison on the board
Fourth Quarter (Hanover 25-6)
  • 13:24 - The Green and White capitalized on the power play with as Justice scored again thanks to a pass from Carpenter
  • 13:04 - Connally quickly corralled the ground ball on the face-off and drove for an unassisted goal
  • 12:39 - Justice received a pass from Neu-Houdieshell and got pushed into the crease but not before scoring his third goal of the day
  • 5:33 - Jones found a wide-open goal off the rebound and swatted in a goal while drawing the contact
  • 1:48 - Funari rounded out the scoring with a goal from deep
The Bison are back in action on Wednesday, March 4 as they host Juniata (Pa.) College in a non-conference game at 7 p.m. on Don Ault Field at Bison Stadium.
