Baseball Scores 23 in Rout of Moravian

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Bethany College baseball team defeated Moravian (Pa.) University by a final score of 23-10 in a non-conference game at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at Lake Myrtle Park. 

At the Plate
  • Senior All-PAC second baseman Jaden Nestor-Fox (Vermilion, Ohio) knocked in a career-high four RBI after going 3-for-5 including two triples and scored a team-high three runs
  • Senior catcher Payton Davis (Canton, Ohio/Malvern) also recorded four RBI thanks to two doubles and scored two runs
  • Junior Academic All-PAC third baseman Gian DeGenova (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) had two doubles to bring in three runs for the Bison
  • Senior left fielder Devin Toothman (East Liverpool, Ohio) stole two bases and only needed one hit to collect two RBI
  • Senior All-PAC right fielder Sonny Peluchette (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Central Catholic) smacked a double and a triple to finish with two hits and two steals
  • Freshman left fielder Brance McCune (Morgantown, W.Va./University) got a hit in each of his two at-bats and scored one run
  • Sophomore designated hitter Marco Gonzalez (Oviedo, Fla.) finished with two runs scored, two stolen bases, one hit, one RBI, and one run scored
  • Freshman first baseman Kolton Smittle (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) earned a hit and a RBI in his first game at the corner
  • Junior first baseman Austin Samanske (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines) and freshman second baseman Dominick Bombardiere (Clarksburg, W.Va./Notre Dame) each drew a bases-loaded walk to extend the Green and White lead
  • Freshman center fielder Matthew Stathos (Batavia, Ohio/West Clermont) delivered on a sac fly for the final Bethany score
  • Junior shortstop Evan Hegarty (Poland, Ohio/Poland Seminary) and sophomore center fielder Niko Heidt (San Diego, Calif./Monte Vista) also contributed to the Bison's 20-RBI day
On the Mound
  • Senior right-hander Payton Zupko (Mineral Ridge, Ohio) only needed four innings to improve to 3-0 on the year after limiting the Greyhounds to one earned run on three hits as he added two strikeouts
  • Junior left-hander Tristan Simrau (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City West) pitched an inning and a third where he had two strikeouts
  • Freshman right-hander Landon Holley (Cecil, Pa./Canon-McMillan) threw the final 1.2 innings where he gave up one earned run on two hits
The Bison are back in action Thursday, March 12 as they conclude the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in Auburndale, Florida against the University of Minnesota-Morris in a non-conference game at 10:30 a.m. at Lake Myrtle Park.
