AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Bethany College baseball team defeated the University of Minnesota-Morris by a final score of 3-1 in a non-conference game at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at Lake Myrtle Park.
Scoring Plays
- Bottom 4th - Senior All-PAC right-hander Sonny Peluchette (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Central Catholic) gave the Bison the lead with a two-run base hit up the middle
- Bottom 8th - Senior All-PAC second baseman Jaden Nestor-Fox (Vermilion, Ohio) extended the Bethany lead with a double down the line
At the Plate
- Sophomore center fielder Niko Heidt (San Diego, Calif./Monte Vista) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases
- Freshman catcher Kolton Smittle (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) also added two hits and scored one run
- Peluchette knocked in two RBI and finished 1-for-2 with two walks and a sac bunt
- Nestor-Fox recorded two hits and an RBI
On the Mound
- Peluchette struck out five through four innings where he held the Cougars to one earned run on three hits and two walks
- Freshman right-hander Billy Sloan (North Jackson, Ohio/Jackson-Milton) got his first career win as he pitched five innings of one-hit ball and had two strikeouts
The Bison are back in action Tuesday, March 17 as they travel to University Heights, Ohio to take on John Carroll (Ohio) University in a non-conference game at 3 p.m. at Schweickert Field.
