Baseball Downed by John Carroll Following Late Innings Surge

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio - The Bethany College baseball team fell to John|Carroll (Ohio) University by a final score of 11-6 in a non-conference game at Schweickert Field.

Scoring Plays
  • Top 3rd - Sophomore designated hitter Marco Gonzalez (Oviedo, Fla.) put the Green and White on top with a two-run single
  • Top 5th - Senior left fielder Devin Toothman (East Liverpool, Ohio) smacked a three-run shot to right to extend the Bison lead
  • Top 6th - Senior Academic All-PAC first baseman Gian DeGenova (Wheeling, W.Va/Wheeling Park) drew a bases-loaded walk to put Bethany up by four
At the Plate
  • Toothman finished a team-best 2-for-4 with his first home run of the season alongside three RBI, one stolen base, and scored one run
  • DeGenova got walked three times to go 1-for-2 with one run driven in
  • Gonzalez knocked in two RBI and finished with a hit and a run scored
  • Senior All-PAC right fielder Sonny Peluchette (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Central Catholic) and sophomore center fielder Niko Heidt (San Diego, Calif./Monte Vista) supplied the last two hits for the Bison offense
On the Mound
  • Freshman left-hander Noah Stonerock (Circleville, Ohio/Westfall) got the start and went four innings where he allowed two runs on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts to exit the game with the lead
  • Freshman right-hander Dominic Fry (Caldwell, Ohio) pitched two shutout innings where he faced nine batters and gave up only two hits
  • Freshman left-hander Matthew Stathos (Batavia, Ohio/West Clermont) came on to start the seventh and faced six batters and freshman right-hander Landon Holley (Cecil, Pa./Canon-McMillan) threw 1.2 innings and struck out two of his 12 batters
The Bison are back in action Saturday, March 21 as they host Saint Vincent (Pa.) College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at Bethany Park.
