Baseball Begins PAC Schedule with Split Versus Saint Vincent

BETHANY, W.Va. - The Bethany College baseball team took on Saint Vincent (Pa.) College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader where they lost the first game by a final score of 4-0 and won the second by a final score of 15-3 at Bethany Park.

Game 1
At the Plate
  • Senior left fielder Devin Toothman (East Liverpool, Ohio) and sophomore center fielder Niko Heidt (San Diego, Calif./Monte Vista) led the Green and White offense as they each went 2-for-4 with a double
  • Senior All-PAC right-fielder Sonny Peluchette (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Central Catholic) supplied the last Bison hit with a two-out single to center
On the Mound
  • Sophomore right-hander Marco Gonzalez (Oviedo, Fla.) got the start in Game 1's pitching duel where he punched out seven and allowed only three earned runs through 6.2 innings of work
  • Sophomore right-hander Billy Sloan (North Jackson, Ohio/Jackson-Milton) threw 2.1 scoreless innings of relief as he retired all seven of his batters faced including one strikeout
Game 2
At the Plate
  • Junior Academic All-PAC third baseman Gian DeGenova (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) woke up the Bethany bats going a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI including a walk-off three-run double to run rule Saint Vincent
  • Senior catcher Payton Davis (Canton, Ohio/Malvern) went 3-for-4 with two RBI coming on a single down the line to extend the Bison lead to nine
  • Gonzalez had two hits with three RBI in the box for the Green and White
  • Peluchette also collected two hits with one RBI and scored three runs
On the Mound
  • Senior right-hander Payton Zupko (Mineral Ridge, Ohio) carved up the Bearcat lineup with seven strikeouts through six innings where he gave up only one earned run to earn his fourth win of the season
  • Peluchette came on in relief where he faced eight batters in the seventh and eighth innings and had one strikeout while holding Saint Vincent to one run
The Bison are back in action Tuesday, March 24 as they travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to take on Chatham (Pa.) University in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader begining at 1 p.m. on West Field.
