PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Bethany College baseball team took on Chatham (Pa.) University in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader where they lost the first game by a final score of 9-8 and won the second by a final score of 5-2 at West Field.
Game 1
At the Plate
- Sophomore right fielder Marco Gonzalez (Oviedo, Fla.) went a season-best 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and scored one run to lead the Bison offense
- Junior Academic All-PAC third baseman Gian DeGenova (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) and senior All-PAC right-fielder Sonny Peluchette (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Central Catholic) each collected two hits as both recorded their second straight multi-hit game
- Freshman first baseman Kolton Smittle (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) drove in three runs on a groundout, a walk, and an RBI double
On the Mound
- Peluchette went five innings where he allowed seven runs on seven hits and seven walks but escaped with a no-decision and five strikeouts
- Sophomore right-hander Billy Sloan (North Jackson, Ohio/Jackson-Milton) pitched 3.1 innings where he gave up only two Chatham runs on three hits and struck out two
Game 2
At the Plate
- Senior All-PAC second baseman Jaden Nestor-Fox (Vermilion, Ohio) notched a team-high two RBI thanks to a go-ahead two-run double in the sixth
- Senior left fielder Devin Toothman (East Liverpool, Ohio) and sophomore center fielder Niko Heidt (San Diego, Calif./Monte Vista) each tallied a hit and scored a run for the Green and White
- Gonzalez continued his big day with two more hits including another RBI single
On the Mound
- Freshman left-hander Noah Stonerock (Circleville, Ohio/Westfall) tossed 7.1 innings where he allowed only one earned run on five hits while striking out two to pick up the win over the Cougars
- Freshman right-hander Dominic Fry (Caldwell, Ohio) served as the bridge man in the eighth and started the ninth where he faced three batters and struck out one
- Senior right-hander Payton Zupko (Mineral Ridge, Ohio) slammed the door on Chatham for his third save of the season as he struck out one of his two batters faced
The Bison are back in action Saturday, March 28 as they host Thiel (Pa.) College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at Bethany Park.
