Softball Picks Up a Pair of Home Victories Over Thiel

BETHANY, W.Va. - The Bethany College softball team swept Thiel (Pa.) College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader by final scores of 10-6 and 10-1 at Bison Field.

Game 1
At the Plate
  • Senior All-PAC shortstop Brooke Markland (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) knocked in a career-high five RBI after finishing 3-for-4 with two doubles
  • Sophomore right-hander Trinity Edge (Franklin, Pa.) was perfect at the plate with a hit in all four of her at-bats as the Bison starter also scored three runs
  • Sophomore left fielder Amber Dedmon (Canton, Ohio/Canton South) stayed hot with another three-hit performance for the Green and White
  • Junior All-PAC third baseman Emma Jackson (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) collected two RBI thanks to a one-out double to open the scoring for the Bison
  • Freshman first baseman Shelby Crow (Triadelphia, W.Va./John Marshall) came up with a pinch-hit single for her first knock in front of the home crowd
  • Freshman first baseman Jenna Nolan (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) had an RBI single in the fourth to add an insurance run for Bethany
  • Sophomore All-PAC catcher Olivia Kidd (Akron, Ohio/Mogadore) added one hit for the Bethany offense while sophomore Academic All-PAC second baseman Caitlin O'Farrell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) drove in the last RBI for the Bison offense

  • Edge jumps to 7-0 on the year after yet another complete game where she allowed five earned runs on 10 hits and four walks but struck out five batters in Game 1

At the Plate
  • Sophomore designated player Molly Hitchen (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) hit a sac fly in the fourth inning to put the Bison up by nine
  • Kidd completed the cycle on the day with a single, a triple, and a two-run shot off the top of the wall to finish 3-for-3 with three RBI
  • Jackson also went 3-for-3 while scoring once and driving in one run
  • Markland was the third Bison to go 3-for-3 with two RBI to total six hits and seven runs driven in on the day
  • Nolan added two hits and two RBI
  • O'Farrell and Edge each contributed Bethany's last two hits
In the Circle
  • Junior Academic All-PAC right-hander Victoria Wehrberger (Sebastian, Fla./Sebastian River) tossed another complete game where she gave up four hits, three walks, and no earned runs while striking out two Tomcats
The Bison are back in action Thursday, April 2 as they host a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader against Westminster (Pa.) College beginning at 3 p.m. at Bison Field.
