Softball Defeats Elms and Alfred State in Day 2 of Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic

NAPLES, Fla. - The Bethany College softball team defeated Elms (Mass.) College and Alfred State (N.Y.) University by final scores of 9-0 and 11-3 in a non-conference doubleheader at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic at North Collier Regional Park.

At the Plate
  • Freshman left fielder Amber Dedmon (Canton, Ohio/Canton South) went a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, a stolen base, and scored two runs
  • Freshman first baseman Jenna Nolan (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) tallied two of the Bison's 10 hits against the Blazers
  • Junior All-PAC third baseman Emma Jackson (Allliance, Ohio/Marlington) drove in two RBI with two sac flies and added a double
  • Sophomore All-PAC catcher Olivia Kidd (Akron, Ohio/Mogadore) also drove in two runs for the Bethany offense
In the Circle
  • Senior All-PAC right-hander Katelyn Ziems (Bowling Green, Ohio) got her first start of the year where she went four innings and limited Elms to one hit and struck out five of her 12 batters faced
  • Freshman right-hander Shelby Crow (Triadelphia, W.Va./John Marshall) pitched the fifth as she struck out one in her collegiate debut

  • Senior All-PAC shortstop Brooke Markland (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) collected three hits in three at-bats and finished with two runs, an RBI, and a stolen base
  • Sophomore Academic All-PAC right fielder Bella Juozapaitis (Tecumseh, Mich.) notched three RBIs on two hits and scored one run
  • Sophomore center fielder Trinity Edge (Franklin, Pa.) also drove in two runs along with two hits, a run, and a stolen base
  • Kidd went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a steal
In the Circle
  • Sophomore right-hander Madisyn Zigarovich (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) got the win in her Bethany debut after pitching five innings allowing only one earned run on six hits and striking out three
  • Junior Academic All-PAC right-hander Victoria Wehrberger (Sebastian, Fla./Sebastian River) closed the game in the sixth with two strikeouts and gave up one run
The Bison are back in action Monday, March 9 as they continue the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Florida by taking on La Roche (Pa.) University and the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford (Pa.) in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at Lee County Sports Complex.
