At the Plate
- Marco Gonzalez (Oviedo, Fla.) got the Bison started with a two-run single in the bottom of the first.
- Trailing 4-3 in the sixth inning, senior catcher Payton Davis (Canton, Ohio/Malvern) turned the energy dial to the max with a two-run pull side bomb down the line giving the Bison the lead.
- Junior Academic All-PAC third baseman Gian DeGenova (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) felt left out before launching his own two-run homer the following inning. He finished the game 3-4 with two runs and three RBI.
- On the bases, senior All-PAC second baseman Jaden Nestor-Fox (Vermilion, Ohio) continues to be a menace. The speedster swiped two bags and scored three runs going 2-3 with a double and a walk.
On the Mound
- Senior pitcher Payton Zupko (Mineral Ridge, Ohio) got the nod. He grinded out five innings striking out five batters and giving up four runs before calling it a day.
- Senior All-PAC right-hander Sonny Peluchette (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Central Catholic) pulled the sled the rest of the way, dealing four innings of scoreless ball. He also struck out five and only gave up one hit.
Game 2
At the Plate
- It was all Bison from the start. Freshman catcher Kolton Smittle (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) got the Green and White on the board with a bases-loaded double scoring two. You would think the catcher changed his number, as Smittle sported threes all across the box score going 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI and a walk.
- Sophomore shortstop Evan Hegarty (Poland, Ohio/Poland Seminary) scored Smittle on two separate singles, earning RBIs on both. He also stole a base.
- Sophomore center fielder Niko Heidt (San Diego, Calif./Monte Vista) went 2-4 with a pair of RBIs, a run scored, and an expected stolen base.
- DeGenova continued to slug, adding an RBI double to his Saturday line. He also made waves in the field, stealing multiple base hits away from the Golden Tornadoes at third base.
- Zupko jumped to the other side after pitching in the previous game. He went 2-4 with an RBI single to close out the day.
- Senior Academic All-PAC first baseman Ethan McHugh (Brilliant, Ohio/Buckeye Local) had a sneaky three-run game, going 2-3 with a double and a walk.
On the Mound
- Gonzalez did it all himself, tossing a complete game (7-Inn). He gave up one run on four hits while striking out seven batters. He bumped his record over .500 moving to 4-3 on the season.
The Bison will look for their first 20-win season since 2019 as they host a single non-conference game against Pitt-Greensburg this Monday, April 13th. First pitch is at 4 p.m.
