Baseball Drops Non-Conference Game to Pitt-Greensburg

BETHANY, W.Va. - The Bethany College baseball team fell to the University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg (Pa.) by a final score of 5-4 in a non-conference game at Bethany Park.

Scoring Plays
  • Bottom 1st - Senior left fielder Devin Toothman (East Liverpool, Ohio) swiped home after a Bobcat throw down to second
  • Bottom 1st - Sophomore right fielder Marco Gonzalez (Oviedo, Fla.) laid down the sacrifice bunt and almost beat the throw from third
  • Bottom 6th - Senior All-PAC designated hitter Sonny Peluchette (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Central Catholic) brought in a run on a sac fly to cut into the Pitt-Greensburg lead
  • Bottom 7th - Senior All-PAC second baseman Jaden Nestor-Fox (Vermilion, Ohio) put the ball in play on a groundout but brought in another run for the Bison
At the Plate
  • Freshman outfielder Brance McCune (Morgantown, W.Va./University) collected a hit in his only at-bat of the night with a pinch-hit single down the line
  • Sophomore center fielder Niko Heidt (San Diego, Calif./Monte Vista) smoked a triple off the wall in right-center for another Bethany hit
  • Gonzalez shot one through the right side to break up the no-hitter
  • Senior Academic All-PAC first baseman Ethan McHugh (Brilliant, Ohio/Buckeye Local) got a little help from the wind as his towering fly to left fell in for a single
  • Toothman stole a career-high four bases and scored one run
  • Nestor-Fox scored two of the Bison's four runs and drove in one RBI
On the Mound
  • Junior left-hander Tristan Simrau (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City West) got his first start wearing the Green and White he held the Bobcats to three runs over four innings and notched one strikeout
  • Freshman right-hander Dominick Bombardiere (Clarksburg, W.Va./Notre Dame) made his Bethany pitching debut where he tossed the fifth and also added a strikeout
  • Freshman left-hander Dominic Kempton (Dillonvale, Ohio/Buckeye Local) had the best outing of his young career as he pitched four scoreless innings with two strikeouts to keep the Bison in the game
The Bison are back in action Tuesday, April 14 as they host Allegheny (Pa.) College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at Bethany Park.
