BETHANY, W.Va. - The Bethany College baseball team fell to Muskingum (Ohio) University by a final score of 12-11 in a non-conference game at Bethany Park.
Scoring Plays
- Bottom 1st - Sophomore designated hitter Marco Gonzalez (Oviedo, Fla.) got the scoring started with an RBI single up the middle
- Bottom 1st - Junior Academic All-PAC third baseman Gian DeGenova (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) scored on a miscue by the Muskies
- Bottom 1st - Freshman left fielder Brance McCune (Morgantown, W.Va./University) added an RBI single to extend the Bison lead
- Bottom 1st - Senior All-PAC first baseman Sonny Peluchette (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Central Catholic) scored on another Muskingum error
- Bottom 2nd - DeGenova's two-run double gave Bethany a 6-0 lead
- Bottom 2nd - Freshman catcher Kolton Smittle (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) cranked a bases-clearing triple to put the Bison up big
- Bottom 3rd - Sophomore center fielder Niko Heidt (San Diego, Calif./Monte Vista) stole home to get a run back for Bethany
- Bottom 3rd - Gonzalez delivered another RBI single
At the Plate
- DeGenova finished 2-for-3 with two RBI, three runs scored, and a stolen base
- Smittle also added two hits and had a team-high three RBI
- Gonzalez was the third Bison with two hits and drove in two runs
- McCune supplied Bethany with the team's final RBI
On the Mound
- Freshman left-hander Dominic Kempton (Dillonvale, Ohio/Buckeye Local) got his first career start where he pitched 2.2 innings and allowed three runs on three hits while notching a strikeout
- Freshman right-hander Chris Stathos (Batavia, Ohio/West Clermont) had the longest outing of his career where he pitched three innings
- Junior left-hander Tristan Simrau (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City West) and freshman right-hander Dominic Fry (Caldwell, Ohio) each had one strikeout and limited Muskingum to one run in each of their innings pitched
- Peluchette closed out the game with two runs and one strikeout through 1.1 innings
The Bison are back in action Wednesday, April 22 as they travel to Grove City, Pennsylvania to take on Grove City (Pa.) College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at R. Jack Behringer Field.
